Nat'l Seminar-Workshop on Rizal’s virtues, idealisms sets-off


Holding the theme "Re-affirming the Teaching of Rizal's Virtues and Idealisms in the Philippine Schools in the Context of the New Millennium: In Search of Global Competitiveness and Excellence," a three-day Philippine-wide Seminar-Workshop on Dr. Jose P. Rizal's Virtues and Idealisms was held in Jose Rizal Memorial State College (JRMSC), Main Campus, Dapitan City on December 27-29, 2007.

The seminar - workshop was formally opened in its first day by a doxology led by the JRMSC Lundayan Choristers, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.

In behalf of Dapitan City Mayor Dominador Jalosjos, Hon. Patri "Jing" Chan then rendered her salutation together with Dr. Edgar Balbuena, JRMSC System President in welcoming all the participants from different state colleges and universities, including Councilor Apple Marie Agolong as one of the guests, speakers and observers of the said seminar.

Dr. Evelyn Campiseño, Vice President for Planning, Research, Extension and Special Concerns of JRMSC introduced the participants.

One of the highlights of the seminar-workshop was the Launching of the Book "The Dapitan Correspondence of Dr. Jose P. Rizal and Dr. Ferdinand Blumentritt" compiled by former Congressman Romeo G. Jalosjos. An introductory statement was given by Hon. Chan, and the chair for the Heritage Dapitan Task Force. It was followed by words of introduction by the executive director of Heritage Dapitan, Dr. Eva M. Moncada.

Hon. Emmylou B. Yanga, CHED Regional IX Director accept the books and also delivered her inspirational message. This was followed by a keynote speech of Atty. Ramoncita V. Reyes, the great grand daughter of Narcisa Rizal, our national hero's sister.

Subsequently the formal lecture took place. Prof. Ailyn Kindipan of PMA Baguio City lectured on "Republic Act 1425 (Rizal Law) and the Teaching of Rizal Course: Implications to the Preparation, Characteristics, Skills and Competence of Education and their Delivery System". She detailed how the controversial Senate Bill 438 authored by Claro M. Recto became a Rizal Law. She also talked about the coincidence of the Noli and Fili of Rizal with the actions of Katipuneros in the leadership of Bonifacio.

"As if our national hero predicted the battle between the Spaniards and oppressed Filipinos," she stressed.

Dr. George Aseniero of Dapitan City conveyed on "Jose P. Rizal as a Renaissance Man and an Epitome of Values: His Relevance in the Life of a New Millennium Filipino in Search for Excellence and Global Competitiveness."

After all the discussions, an open forum followed.
