WITNESS LEADERS of tomorrows lead!

It was a splendid night where women and men came in casual attire and in formal wear as Dr. Edgar S. Balbuena, the President of Jose Rizal Memorial State College (JRMSC) System inducted them as new set of officers of the 2007 – 2008 Supreme Student Government (SSG), Main Campus, Dapitan City at Madsvie Hall last June 12, Tuesday.

The ceremony’s theme was “Transcending Greater Heights and Crossing Boundaries Through Leadership and Awareness: Strengthening the SSG of JRMSC.” Hon. Jenelyn O. Espinosa, the newly elected Vice President of SSG gave her welcome address to formally start the program.

Later, Sir Josemilo P. Jacinto introduced the guest speaker - Atty. Pete T. Zamora, the re-elected Dapitan City Councilor. Afterwards, Atty. Zamora delivered his honorable message.

Hon. Zamora stressed, initially, that he was privileged to speak before the SSG officers, and even supplemented that the theme of the said event was more suitable and timely.
“Leadership and Awareness were the essential words to be reflected. Good leaders must hear the every clamor of the youth and should be aware of your strengths and weaknesses and, don’t refuse to search good leadership,” he said.

Atty. Zamora emphasized that the student-leaders must be serious in rendering service to their co-students. “ You must make a solid choice. Be strong in standing at the issues you are definitely certain of and in making such stand, you must voluntarily sacrifice your competence and capacity, ” Hon. Zamora explained.

“Act as a true student-leader and be not an imposter to your position. Bear up in your mind those students who voted for you, expected a lot from you, so be confident enough to stand for with their rights and advocacies and never hesitate to push their interest,” he stated.

He concluded his message by quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s “Faith in the ability of a leader is of slight service unless it be united with faith in his justice.”

Afterwards, Dr. Balbuena rendered his message and later officially inducted the newly elected officers of SSG. “Leadership is indeed a challenging task to be done. Take the speech of the guest speaker, Atty. Zamora, as a chance,” he stated. He also gave the acronym APRIL: A – attitudes, good behavior and qualities; P – persistence, for the good of studentry; R – responsibilities and duties; I – interest to work; and, L – leading.

Just like Atty. Zamora’s speech, Dr. Balbuena also ended his talk by providing Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs: (1) Deficiency needs - physiological needs, safety needs, love, belonging, and social needs, esteem needs, cognitive needs and aesthetic needs; and, (2) Growth needs - self-actualization and self-transcendence.
