Paradahan reels-off

DAPITAN CITY - Down from the pier of Dakak Beach Resort in Taguilon, Dapitan City to Sta. Cruz Beach where Dr. Jose P. Rizal landed, the amazing fluvial parade in the Shrine City Sea competently opened the "Paradahan" competition under-scoring the First Handuraw Festival 2006 on December 30.

Six participating groups united to join the fluvial parade representing diverse barangays, cities and municipalities nearby the province of Zamboanga del Norte namely; Municipality of Sibutad (Contingent No. 1), Brgy. Talisay (Contingent No. 2), Dapitan City General Services Office's Tribu ni Pepe (Contingent No. 3), Municipality of Katipunan (Contingent No. 4), Bgry. Barcelona (Contingent No.5) and JRMSC Dipolog City Campus (Contingent No. 6).

The arrival of the startling fluvial designs, depicting Rizal's life and legacies in Dapitan City making it the Shrine City of the Philippines, with their intense drum rhythm and music really made the waiting Dapitanons applaud for delight and astonishment.

Chairing the panel of critics in the fluvial parade and float competition was Mr. Efren B. Carreon with Engr. Thaddeus MontaƱo and Hon. Edimar S. Alota as his members.

The advent of the six entries in the fluvial parade marked- off the beginning of the Street Dancing and the symmetrical, harmonized and attractive Float Competition from Brgy. Sta. Cruz to the street of Brgy. Bagting down to Brgy. Potol and finally to the City Square.

Prof. Carlo G. Bernandez (Chairman), Mr. Jay Castillo Lorenzo and Mr. Roberto "Bitoy" Gonzales were the judges in the street dancing situated in three judging posts set in Brgy. Sta. Cruz, Brgy. Bagting and Brgy. Potol.

Contingent number three from the Dapitan City General Services Office (CGSO) capped the over-all champ slot in the Pradahan 2006 overpowering the Fluvial Parade, Final Showdown, second place in the Float Competition and bested the three minor awards namely: Best in Street Dancing, Best in Costume and Best in Choreography by Isagani Laput.

The over-all first runner- up spot was gripped by the contingent coming from the Municipality of Sibutad clenching the second spot in the final showdown and street dancing competition,thus, putting the contingent from JRMSC Dipolog Campus in the over-all second runner-up spot. The said contingent grappled the third place in the fluvial parade, street dancing and final showdown.

Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital grabbed the first slot in float competition while Brgy. Talisay, Dapitan City got the second place in the fluvial parade and third place in the float competition .

"Paradahan 2006" compe-tition successfully ended the 1st Handuraw Festival ‘06 in Dapitan.
