1st Balak Contest held at the City Square


Dapitan City Plaza - To reminisce Rizal's life and martyrdom , a first Balak Competition depicting his existence during his exile in Dapitan was launched during the last day of Handuraw 2007 at the City Square, Saturday, December 29, 2007 at exactly 6:00 p.m.

The contest started with a doxology led by Miss Febra Sagario of RMI followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.

Hon. John Michael Sanico, the SK Federation President, Dapitan City, Mr. Reden Badlon presented the contestants who were bona fide high school students from 1st year to 4th year from public and private secondary schools in the City Schools Division of Dapitan City, then gave his welcome address.

Afterwhich, City Vice Mayor Patri Bajamunde Chan then, delivered her inspiring message.

Judging 20% for originality, 20% for organization, 25% for delivery and mechanics and 10% for stage presence, Saulo Cagbabanua, representing Ilaya National High School, was declared the champion and received P3,000. 00 and a trophy; Ronel Abasulo of Dakak National High School grabbed the second place and received an amount of P2,000.00 with a trophy and Edelberto Esmade Jr. who stood for Sulangon National High School (SNHS) got the 3rd place bringing Php. 1,500.00 and a trophy. A consolation prize of Php. 500.00 was also given to each participating national high school.

The judges of the Balak Competition were DXFL Radio Personnels namely Nick Carbonel, being the chairman, and Genesis Ajero of Isyu Karon and Alfredo Ogoc of DXFL News as members.

DJ Al Sarmiento and Reden Badlon of Magic 103 "Dangpanan sa Katawhan" emceed the said Balak Contest.
