MSU-IIT’s Octava Chorale gains Dapitanon’s first-class impressions

DAPITAN CITY CULTURAL AND SPORTS CENTER - Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), the two-time world Representative to the Philippines for musical disputes crooned on Saturday night December 30, 2006.

The internationally acclaimed Octava Choral society of the Mindanao State University Iligan Institute of Technology in cooperation with the Jose Rizal Memorial State College System, performed a one and a half hour of pure leisure music at the dome of the Dapitan City Cultural and Sports Center at exactly 7 p.m. on Saturday night.

The chorus serenaded the Dapitanons with their vast repertoire of tunes ranging from local to overseas harmonies showcasing their beatific, versatile and saintly voices to the impressed addressees who partaken in watching the recital.

Dr. Rhodora S.N. Englis- Adviser of the Choral Society summarized the tenets of how Octava came to be Octava, and its achievements and engagements through time.

Part 1 subsumed the songs: “The Prayer” of David Foster /Sager R. Delgado; “Let there be Praise” of D. & M. Tunney and “Another Song to Sing” by Yorkz/Rentz.

The second part of the gig contained the powerful duet rendition of the song "When You Believe" popularized by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey performed by choristers Phoebe and Astrid, trio of the song "Stand up for love" of the Destiny's Child by choir singers Phoebe Astrid and Lua and another duet of the song "Tell Him" of Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand performed by choristers Reynabeth and Claire. It also consisted the pieces of G. Gelpin's "Best of Times" and Ed Lojeski's Phantom of the Opera.
Subsequently, local songs dominated the dome in the third stage of the concert exemplifying the symphonies of Ramon Santos's "Tuksuhan", Freddie Aguilars globally applauded "Anak", Willie Cruz's "Bituing Walang Ningning", B. Bagayaua's "Mang Gustin" and Ernani Cuico's "Kalesa".

Part 4 typified some of Mindanao's top tribal pieces: Arr. Helen Tejero's "Mamayug Akun"; Arr. P. Magdamo's "Banlay Paak Biyaaw"; Velez/Arr. Zoi Lopez's "Sa Kabukiran"; Arr. E. Palaruan's "Tagumpay ng Ating Lahi" and Bonifacio/ R. Umali's "Pag-ibig sa Tinubuang Lupa". Afterwards, the songs "Diwa ng Pasko" of artist San Pedro, "Noche Buena" of Ryan Cayabyab and "Jingle Bells Calypso" of Leo M. Teller accommodated the fifth part of the stage. Finally, W. Cruz/Arr. Parungao's "Magandang Gabi" and Boom Tarat-tarat resonated in the finale.

Staff and officers of the singing society were as follows: Prof. Francisco "Frank" A. Englis (Founder and Musical); Prof. Enrico "Chikoy" C. Riconalla (Pianist) and Dr. Rhodora S.N. Englis (Adviser).

Composing members for Suprano were: Astrid F. Ebillo; Phoebe C. Ebona; Reynabeth L. Macaraig; Florabella Gonzaga; April Pristine Ole and Claire Azcuna. Members for the Alto were: Lua C. Burias; Jane L. Paglinawan and Sharon Lumanta. Choristers for Tenor and Basses were: Dan Amorcillo; Ryan Jay V. Bucol; Kart Patrick S. Casas; Jan Ezra O. Undag and Nathan Kim A. Mosot; Jolouvic Edpalina; Mario Macas; Jaffar Dave Macadato; Shane D. Subido; Aldren A. Galano and Loel G. Inglatiera.
